S.A.L.T

What is S. A. L. T.?

S.A.L.T. is an acronym for Seniors And Law enforcement Together and is a program that is supported by the Virginia Attorney General’s Office. The Galax S.A.L.T. Council was formed in August of 2004 and consists of representatives from the Galax Police Department, community service groups such as the Department of Social Services, District Three and Rooftop of VA and other private individuals and citizens who have a vested interest in the increasing senior population in the Twin County Area.

A major purpose of the Galax S.A.L.T. Council is to develop, expand and implement effective crime prevention and safety programs for older citizens of the Twin County Area. The S.A.L.T Council works at the local level to improve the quality of life for seniors by providing an active exchange of information between local law enforcement and seniors. The S.A.L.T Council meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 12:00 noon at the Galax Recreation Department.  We discuss the needs of the senior population and how to address those needs. We sponsor free trainings at least once a quarter that include guest speakers who are sometimes brought in from across the state who possesses an expertise in a particular area that addresses the needs of the senior population. These trainings also include a meal and are offered free to the public.

Please contact Crime Prevention Officer Kevin Hall at the Galax Police Department (276-238-2542) for more information on upcoming events or for more information on the Galax S.A.L.T. Council.  Please contact the Police Department   if you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive correspondence on upcoming events and trainings.
