Hunters Education Certification Course
Registration: June 1 – August 17, 2008
Course Dates: Tuesday, August 19, 2008 ~ 5:30 – 9:30 pm
Thursday, August 21, 2008 ~ 5:30 – 9:30 pm
Participants must attend both sessions to receive hunter education certification card.
Where: Galax Recreation Center
Cost: $5.00 fee to cover class expense
Course will be limited to the first thirty (30) people to sign up.
Youth Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

Open to boys and girls ages 8 – 13.

Entry Fee: Free to all participants

5K Race begins at 10:00 am ~ 1 mile race for kids 12 & under begins at 9:00 am
Pre-race registration held until October 14. Race day registration time is 8:00 - 9:45 am.

Boating Safety & Education Certification Course
Course Date: Saturday, February 7, 2009 (8:00 am – 6:00 pm)
Information: Course is required by the new Virginia boating education law and the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries to operate any boat or personal watercraft in the state of Virginia beginning July 2009
Registration: November 10, 2008 – January 31, 2009 [Galax City Residents]
December 1, 2008 – January 31, 2009 [Non-City Residents]
Must attend entire session and pass exam to satisfy the new Virginia Boating Education Law.

Cost: $5.00 non-refundable fee to cover class expense
Course will be limited to the first forty [40] people who sign up and pay.

After School Activity Program
The Galax Parks and Recreation Department offers quality, supervised programs for boys and girls ages 6 and up and in grades 1 – 7 who attend Galax City Schools. This program is held Monday through Friday, except when Galax City Schools are closed for teacher workdays, holidays, inclement weather or other scheduled closings.
Program Site: Galax Recreation Center
Time: 3:00 - 6:00 pm
Day: Monday - Friday
Cost: $35.00 per week (reduced rates for more than one child in the same household)
*Notice - When Galax City Schools let out before noon because of inclement weather, etc., the After School Program will not operate. When schools let out at noon or later, the After School Program will pick up your child.
Santa's Calling
Parents, by completing
this form, your child age 4 through 9, will receive a phone call from Santa Claus. Phone calls will be made December 9, 10, 11 and 12 between 6:30 and 8:30 pm. Phone numbers must begin with 236 or 238. A form must be filled out for each child who wishes to speak with Santa. In order for your child to have a memorable and enjoyable conversation with Santa, please complete the form with detailed information about the child. All forms must be received by 5:30 pm on December 2, 2008. To avoid any misunderstanding, the child's parents or guardian must sign on the approval line. Mail to address on form or drop off at the Galax Recreation Center or Vaughan Memorial Library.
